April 3, 2023: Grande shares a tribute to her 'Wicked' costars on an Instagram post
Daily Mail reports that Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater were seen kissing before Ethan had broken things off with his wife, Lilly Jay. “They were sloppy on set,” a source says, claiming they were together long before the world found out.
"Ariana and Ethan weren’t careful,” Us reports. “They’d hold hands on set in between takes. They were sloppy and not hiding it.”
“They were seen being all over each other while he was still supposedly happily married to Lilly.” The source continues, “They were seen making out at a pub in Hampstead, and they were all over each other at Michelle Yeoh’s Oscar party [in March].”

In the song "Eternal Sunshine", Ariana alludes to the possibility of infidelity within her marriage to Gomez.

March 9, 2024: Only a day after dropping her new album, Grande shares an open letter asking fans to stop sending “hateful messages” to the people in her life who may have inspired the lyrics, after fans sent hate mail to Ariana’s ex, Dalton Gomez:
“Hi, I just wanted to say anyone that is sending hateful messages to the people in my life based on your interpretation of this album is not supporting me and is absolutely doing the polar opposite of what I would ever encourage (and is also entirely misinterpreting the intention behind the music)... i ask that you please do not. it is not how to support me. it is the opposite. although this album captures a lot of painful moments, it also is woven together with a through line of deep, sincere love. if you cannot hear that, please listen more closely."
A source close to Lilly told the Daily Mail that, "Ariana’s new album just shows what kind of woman she truly is. To sing a song called 'The Boy Is Mine' is not only a slap in the face to his still wife Lilly, but a slap in the face to all women."
The source added, "As Lilly said from the get-go, Ariana is not a girl’s girl and Ethan’s family is collateral damage. Ariana basically rubbed it in Lilly’s face that she stole Ethan from Lilly then asked her fans to not interpret her song the wrong way. This is not an interpretation. It is her literal words."

Lilly Jay was seen for the first time since breaking silence on her ex-husband Ethan Slater's romance with his Wicked co-star Ariana Grande. The clinical psychologist, 32 - who also shares a two-year-old son with the Broadway star - stepped out for a chilly stroll in a snowy neighborhood in New Jersey while pushing their little one in a stroller. In the essay published for The Cut on Thursday, Jay also emotionally opened up about their divorce and the 'public downfall of her marriage.' She penned about moving both herself and her then two-month-old baby boy to London while Slater filmed Wicked - before he left her for Grande after they met on the set of the movie. Lilly further reflected on how she never expected to get a divorce after tying the knot with her high school sweetheart - but emphasized both she and her ex focus on positively co-parenting their son. During her latest outing ahead of the Christmas holiday, Jay was seen bundling up in a pair of dark gray leggings as well as a gray puffer coat.
She slipped into a pair of black boots while walking along the snow-covered sidewalks, and pulled back her locks into a simple bun at the back of her head. Jay later added a pair of thick gloves to her hands to help her stay warm in the cold, winter temperatures. Slater's ex-wife was also joined by her father as the trio ran a few errands, such as grabbing a warm drink from a local coffee shop. While pregnant with her son, Jay penned that she 'never felt happier nor more aware of how precarious happiness could be.'
Lilly also revealed, 'I survived preeclampsia, a life-threatening birth complication, and finally, our family was whole. Mine is a story of worrying in the wrong direction.'
In regards to the 'sponge' analogy in the essay, the insider stated that it had been a dig at her ex. He notably played the character of Spongebob on Broadway. 'The 'sponge' analogy was a subtle jab at the situation, but now that her story is out, she feels liberated.' 'Though she was approached by nearly every media outlet, Lilly didn't want to give an interview until she was ready. She wanted to control her own narrative and tell her story on her own terms. Following the essay, Ethan was also slammed by fans on social media over his 'deeply disappointing treatment' of Lilly.
